Quota protesters to hold countrywide funeral processions Wednesday

In the wake of the ongoing quota reform movement, clashes between police, Chhatra League members, and general students have resulted in the deaths of six individuals across the country. To honor those killed, protesters announced they will hold symbolic funeral processions (Ghaibana Janaza) and coffin marches nationwide on Wednesday (July 17) at noon.

The announcement was made by the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement shortly after midnight on Tuesday (July 16).

The coordinators stated, “In memory of our fallen brothers who were martyred in today’s joint attacks and shootings by the police and Chhatra League, a ‘Ghaibana Janaza and Coffin March’ will be held at the base of the Raju Sculpture at 2 PM on July 17.”

They called upon all educational institutions and districts to observe the symbolic funeral processions and coffin marches, urging all students in Dhaka to gather promptly at the Raju Sculpture.
