Qatar Charity (QC), an international charity organization, has installed 553 deep tube wells in six districts of the Barisal division last year. The initiative has benefited 27,650 local people.
A total of 172 deep tube wells were installed in Barisal district, 130 in Patuakhali, 133 in Pirojpur, 64 in Bhola, 43 in Jhalkathi, and 11 in Barguna district, said a press release issued by Qatar Charity’s Bangladesh office on Wednesday, said a press release.
Locals expressed their satisfaction with the financial support of Qatar Charity for installing deep tube wells at their doorsteps.
Nasir Singh, a beneficiary of Baufal in Patuakhali district said, “Using saline water regularly is very harmful to health. But as there were no alternative sources, we are forced to use saline water for our daily life. It’s a big relief for us that Qatar Charity has provided deep tube wells so that we can get fresh water.”
Sohel Alam, Project Director of QC’s Bangladesh office said, “The water in the coastal area is saline. Common people in these areas are suffering from various health risks due to the consumption of saline water. Qatar Charity is continuously working to solve this problem by taking up various projects.”
Qatar Charity installed more than 1,500 deep tube wells in different districts of the country in the last five years, Sohel Alam added.
