Nearly 200 rooms across four floors of Building No 7 in the Secretariat have been severely damaged in the devastating fire, according to Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, a sub-assistant engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD).
He disclosed the information to the media during a press briefing at the secretariat on Monday. “Secretariat’s Building No 7 caused damage to nearly 200 rooms spanning four floors. The exact cause of the fire would be known only after the investigation concludes,” he said.
He further mentioned that determining whether the building can be renovated and made usable will depend on the results of detailed inspections. The final decision on the possibility of renovation will be clear after receiving the official report.
“The time needed for renovation, should it be deemed feasible, will be determined based on the conclusions of the investigation report,” he added.
