Purbani wants to become model business

Renowned fabric company Purbani, established in 1973, is going to celebrate its 51st anniversary of founding on 31October this year.

Though the group began its journey only with textile based units but now a day it produces a wide range of diversified items Cotton Yarn, Mélange Yarn, OE Yarn, Dyed Yarn, Knitted Fabrics, RMG and Printing & embellishment.

While giving an interview with The New Nation Staff Reporter Syed Shemul Paervez recently, Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel, Managing Director of the group, highlighted the company’s success over the years, The interview is as follows:

The New Nation: what the state of your company and its product quality?
Shafiqul I. Sarker Sohel : Purbani is one of the largest & oldest 100 per cent export oriented Textile conglomerates in Bangladesh since 1973. The company has been doing business for more than 5 decades with a good reputation. It is a vertically integrated textile-manufacturing group and running with 11 business units involved in spinning, yarn dyeing, fabrics manufacturing & dyeing, readymade garments, retail clothing and agriculture.

The New Nation: Purbani Group has been doing business in Bangladesh for a long time, have you faced any difficulties?

Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel: Since the beginning of the organization, my father had worked hard to reach this position today. Setting up a business in countries like ours is a bit difficult. It was a challenging job to grow this organization with time.

The New Nation: In Bangladesh, is there convenient environment for doing business?
Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel: In one word, it is inconvenient to do business in Bangladesh. Here entrepreneurs have to go through many difficulties. You will see a lot of foreign entrepreneurship in countries like Vietnam. But it is not available in our country.

The New Nation: at present, how many sister concerns in your company?
Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel: We now have 11 sister concerns. We normally started our business with textile industries.

The New Nation: How many people have employed in your company?
Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel: In all, about 10,000 people have been employed in our company.

The New Nation: what is the figure of your exports in foreign currency?
Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel: Our annual export income is about 170 million dollars.
The New Nation: What is your future plan with Pubani Group?

Shafiqul Islam Sarker Sohel: We are planning to expand our company, so that more people get employment. Our organization wants to become a model export oriented business that would inspire others.
