During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the UK, local BNP party leaders and activists and workers of some human rights organizations supported by BNP-Jamaat staged a massive protest in London.
As these organizations are mainly led by Sylhete people, the London protests have had an impact on Sylhet.
There has been a mixed reaction in the local Sylhet community.
It has been reported that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the UK ended in a chase between Awami League leaders and activists with BNP-Jamaat activists and activists of various human rights organizations.
During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the UK, BNP-Jamaat activists and various human rights organizations staged massive protests. Earlier, BNP and human rights organizations announced a 2-day program to prevent the arrival of the Prime Minister in the UK. Last Monday (October 2), a large number of BNP activists and human rights activists marched from Hyde Park in front of the Taj Hotel under the leadership of BNP President MA Malek and staged a massive protest.
At the time, they were seen holding various placards against the Prime Minister and the Awami League government.
Human rights organization Safe Bangladesh Chai UK activists Md. Fahaduzzaman, Alim Uddin, Md. Aminur Rahman, Md. Asyadul Haque, Sumena Begum, Ali Hossain, Sharif Ahmad Morshed, Nipa Begum and Shamimul Haque were among others at the protest.
Meanwhile, the local Awami League leaders and activists are angry with the brutal behavior of the BNP leaders and activists in the context of the Prime Minister’s visit to the UK.
Locals said that most of the activists who participated in the protest were from Sylhet.
Although Sylhet maintains a tolerant political environment, the local community leaders have expressed their anger as Sylhetites have destroyed the political environment in London.
