Protest disrupts Dhaka-northern Bangladesh train services

Train services between Dhaka and the northern region were halted for six hours on Thursday after students caught irregularities in ticket sales at Joydevpur Railway Station in Gazipur. The situation was brought under control after members of the army arrived at the scene.

According to local sources, the incident occurred around 5am on Thursday when students at Joydebpur Railway Station noticed irregularities in the ticket sales for the Dhaka-bound Balaka Express train from Dewanganj in Jamalpur, reports media.

Upon discovering ticket scalping and overpricing, the students protested, leading the ticket counter staff to quickly flee the scene. The students continued their protest, which led to the suspension of train services.

Joydebpur Railway Station Master Hanif Ali reported that train services between Dhaka and the northern region, as well as the Mymensingh route, were disrupted for six hours, causing significant inconvenience to passengers stranded at various stations.

The situation was eventually brought under control when army personnel arrived at Joydebpur Station. They engaged with the students, assuring them that steps would be taken to address the irregularities.
Train services resumed around 11:15am after the situation was resolved.
