Chhatra Dal has held a protest march and press conference demanding the withdrawal of the expulsion order of seven leaders from Joypurhat district, city and college branches.
On Thursday afternoon, the protest procession started from the city’s Shaheed Dr. Abul Kashem Maidan and ended at the district BNP office after circumambulating the main road. Later, at a press conference organized there, Government College Chhatra Dal member secretary Piyas Ahmed Prithi and city Chhatra Dal member secretary Hasanul Banna Hasan announced that if the expulsion order is not withdrawn within the next three days, there will be a hunger strike and mass resignation of more than three hundred leaders and activists.
Seven leaders of Joypurhat district, city and college branches were expelled on Wednesday in a notification signed by Chhatra Dal central office secretary Jahangir Alam on charges of violating organizational discipline. The decision was signed by central president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. At the same time, it was ordered not to have organizational relations with the expelled ones.
The expelled are: District Chhatra Dal Deputy General Secretary Aminul Islam, Government College branch member secretary Piyas Ahmed Prithi, joint conveners Sagar Chowdhury and Ahad Hossain, city branch member secretary Hasanul Banna Hasan and joint convener Sohraf Hossain Emon, and Shaheed Zia Degree College branch president Rakibul Karim Rakib.
The speakers at the press conference alleged that they were expelled in a conspiracy after undemocratically preventing them from holding the college branch council. However, they have led the party in Joypurhat for 17 years, enduring repression, imprisonment, and torture by the Awami League government. Now, a sinister group is conspiring to remove them from the party.
The leaders warned that hunger strike and mass resignations would begin on Sunday if the expulsion order was not withdrawn within three days.
