Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is set to address the nation today afternoon, amid rising tensions among political parties over the upcoming national election, the legal status of the July Charter, and the proposed referendum.
According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, his speech will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV), BTV News, and BTV World.
Sources said the Advisory Council will hold its regular weekly meeting tomorrow morning, with the implementation of the July Charter as the top agenda item.
Yunus is expected to discuss boththe charter’s implementation and the referendum in his address.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the address will also air simultaneously on Bangladesh Betar on Thursday afternoon.
Although the July National Charter has been signed, political parties remain divided over the implementation process. Disagreement persists on the timing of the referendum linked to the charter’s execution.
The interim government had allowed a seven-day window for the parties to reach a compromise, which has now expired.
Eight religious parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, have threatened an indefinite sit-in in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence in Jamuna if their demand for the charter’s implementation and a November referendum is not met by Sunday.
Meanwhile, the BNP insists that no referendum should take place before parliamentary elections and demands that it coincides with election day.
Against this backdrop of political tension and unresolved disputes, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will address the nation tomorrow.
