Dr SM Hasan Talukder, professor of Law Department of Dhaka University (DU), has been appointed asthe new Vice- Chancellor (VC) of Rabindra University, Bangladesh (RUB).The Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification in this regard, an official release said on Friday.Prof SM Hasan Talukder was appointed upon approval by the President Mohammed Shahabuddin, alsothe chancellor of the university, under Section 10 (1) of the Rabindra University, Bangladesh Act-2016,the release added.
Group director Mizanur lands in jail in extortion caseBSSA Dhaka court on Friday sent Rongdhanu Group director and former vice chairman of Rupganj upazilla Md Mizanur Rahman to jail in a case lodged for allegedly demanding Taka five crore as extortion.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain passed the order as police produced the accusedbefore the court after end of his two-day remand.
On September 17, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mizanur from Jamuna Future Park area inthe capital. Police produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand. Thecourt, after hearing both sides, placed Mizanur on a two-day remand.
One Mahbub Rahman Modhu filed the case with Khilkhet Police Station on April 30 against eight peoplefor infiltrating into properties owned by East-West Property Development Limited and City MultiAgricultural Company on April 28.Then, the accused also beat three security guards black and blue. They also asked the guards to tell theirbosses to give them Taka five crore as extortion.
