Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Md. Shamim, of the School of Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD), Bangladesh Open University (BOU) has been appointed as the Founding Director of the newly established Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET), in addition to his existing responsibilities.
He assumed the charge of the Institute and he is currently also serving as the Treasurer of BOU.
After assuming office, Professor Shamim stated that a large number of educated youth in the country remain unemployed due to a lack of required skills, which highlights the gap between the current education system and the real needs of the industrial sector, says a BOU release.
In this context, expanding technical and vocational education has become a national priority. BOU’s ITVET will play a significant role in providing employment-oriented, skills-based training in alignment with the National Skills Development Policy and the government’s TVET action plan.
