Entertainment Report :
The film ‘Saba’ starring Mehajabien Chowdhury was released in theatres across the country last Friday. The film, directed by Maqsud Hossain, was screened at about a dozen international festivals before its release.
The film was submitted from Bangladesh to be sent to the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. In the end, Saba was excluded.
And Mehjabeen’s husband, producer Adnan Al Rajib, has expressed his anger over this.
The 98th Academy Awards (Oscars) will be held in March next year. Every year, a film from Bangladesh is sent to compete in the Best International Feature Film category of the Oscars.
This year, Bangladesh will be
represented by ‘Barir Naam Shahana’ directed by Lisa Gazi.
On September 27, the Oscar Bangladesh Committee held a press conference and announced that it would send the film ‘Barir Naam Shahana’ to the Oscars.
Adnan Al Rajib expressed his disappointment on social media over Saba’s exclusion.
Rajib wrote on Facebook, “It is really disappointing when a film gets recognition at the Toronto International Film Festival and other important international events, but the Bangladeshi Oscar committee does not give it importance.
I’m not saying against the film Shahana, it is certainly a beautiful work.
But if the goal is to make the country’s representation stand strong at the Oscars, then Saba is undoubtedly a stronger name.”
Criticising the Oscar Bangladesh Committee, Adnan Al Rajeev wrote, “The problem is that looking at their work, it seems that our committees do not work with real objectives.
A country that does not understand the strategy of how to present its art and culture on the world stage will never be able to move forward.”
