The investigation into the case of six people, who were murdered and their bodies burned in Ashulia, Savar near Dhaka on August 5, has been completed, according to chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Tazul Islam.

Tazul Islam shared this information with journalists on Sunday at his office at the ICT.

He stated that the investigation into the case of six bodies being burned after the killings in Ashulia, as part of the July-August genocide case, has been completed. This is the first case in which an investigation has been fully completed.

Two complaints were filed with the International Crimes Tribunal on September 11 regarding the incident of burning bodies in front of the police station. As both complaints were identical, they were merged into a single case.

In this case, an arrest warrant was issued on December 24 against several individuals, including former local MP Saiful Islam.

While Saiful Islam remains absconding, several individuals have been arrested, including former Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka District Md. Abdullahil Kafi, former Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Md. Shahidul Islam, then-Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.F.M. Sayed, Detective Branch Inspector Md. Arafat Hossain, Sub-Inspector Malek, and Constable Mukul.

Notably, on August 5, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement organised a “March to Dhaka” program demanding the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government.

On the same day, a student-public uprising led to the fall of the Awami League government. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the position of Prime Minister and left the country for India.
