The sellers of Kishoreganj kitchen markets are not complying with the prices set by the government for eggs, chickens and essential commodities . Many sellers have claimed that the government has set the price, something they do not know!
In Thursday , it is seen that the products are not being sold at the fixed price in some markets of kishoreganj. Rather, in some cases, eggs and chicken are being sold at higher prices than before.
Last Sunday (September 15), the Directorate of Agriculture Marketing has fixed the prices of eggs and broilers and golden chickens. As per the new rates, broiler chicken at 179 taka 59 paisa and golden chicken at taka 269 64 paisa per kg at the retail level. Apart from this, the retail price of each egg has been fixed at 11 taka 87 paisa. In this, the price of each dozen eggs is 142 taka 44 paisa.
However, thursday in Bara Bazar, kachari Bazar, Puranthana Bazar and Batrish kitchen markets of Kishoreganj town , broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 188 to
190 per kg, golden chicken at Tk 290. And the farm’s brown eggs are being sold at Tk 160 to -165 per dozen.
Kiahoreganj ‘s Bara Bazar Chicken seller Fazlu Miah said, ‘The government has not fixed the price. Facebook is fixing the price. It’s all fake. We can’t even buy at that price. I can’t even sell it.’
Egg sellers Sunil Barmon said that at the wholesale level, one hundred pieces of brown eggs of different quality farms have to be bought at the rate of Tk 1,300 to Tk 1,320.
The vendors claimed that they did not listen to any instructions from the government. If instructions are to be given, then instead of retail traders, they urged to look at the price of products being sold at wholesale and retail level.
2 lakh 31 thousand 800 eggs arrived from India last week after the import was allowed to control the price of eggs in the market. However, there was no impact on the market.
Traders are claiming that many chicken farms have been destroyed due to recent floods.
Incidentally, this is not the first time that prices have been fixed to control commodity prices in kitchen market. Before this, the government had fixed the prices of several daily commodities including eggs, potatoes, onions, sugar, oil. However, in most cases it has not been seen to be effective in the market.
Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) in Kishoreganj, president Alam Sarowar Tito said that it is necessary to strengthen monitoring to control the price of goods. ‘There is no alternative to strengthen the monitoring system to control the prices. Our traders have a tendency to over-profit. If strict punishment or penalty is not provided, the commodity price will not come under control”.
