Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has apologized for his recent remarks regarding BBC Bangla. In a statement, he expressed his willingness to correct his previous comments about the media outlet.

In a verified Facebook post on Friday (7 February), Shafiqul Alam stated, “I sincerely apologise for my recent remarks about BBC Bangla and would like to amend my statement.”

Explaining his earlier comments, he said, “I made my remarks about BBC Bangla based on specific observations. They have repeatedly claimed that Sheikh Hasina fled to India.

dditionally, I was aware that during Sheikh Hasina’s administration, BBC Bangla had published an interview with Tarique Rahman despite restrictions. Now, whether Tarique Rahman gives an interview to BBC Bangla is his personal matter.

Beyond this, I had previously stated that BBC Bangla was working in favor of the fascist Awami League and Sheikh Hasina. I apologize for these statements and wish to correct them.”

The press secretary further added, “Although I may have observed a lack of objectivity in certain reports, I acknowledge that BBC Bangla is making its best efforts to report the truth about Bangladesh.

They are providing transparent and accurate coverage of the aftermath of Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime and the interim government’s activities. Every journalist in Bangladesh should follow this approach.”

On 5 February, Shafiqul Alam had posted a controversial statement on his verified Facebook profile, alleging that BBC Bangla was biased toward the ousted authoritarian leader Sheikh Hasina. He had written, “It seems BBC Bangla has become a fan of the ousted dictator and mass murderer Sheikh Hasina.

When covering news about her, they avoid mentioning the background of her ‘escape to India.’ After the fall of the Awami League government, they prefer to use the phrase ‘She has gone to India.’ The reality is that Sheikh Hasina fled to India after countless child murders, unprecedented violence, looting, corruption, extrajudicial killings, and the enforced disappearance of over 3,000 people.”

However, he deleted the Facebook post shortly after posting it.
