President Mohammed Shahabuddin has inquired about the health condition of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, who is undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital.
Following the President’s directive, his Assistant Private Secretary Mohammad Sagar Hossain on Sunday visited United Hospital.
During this time, the President spoke over the phone with the Jamaat Ameer’s younger brother, Fakhrul Islam, and wished the Jamaat Ameer’s speedy recovery.
The Jamaat Ameer’s younger brother expressed his gratitude to the President.
Apart from these, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has
expressed concern and inquired about the health condition of the ailing Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
A BNP delegation on behalf of Tarique Rahman on Sunday visited United Hospital in Dhaka, where Jamaat chief is undergoing treatment.
The delegation included BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and another Joint Secretary General, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, who also serves as the secretary of BNP’s media cell.
At the hospital, the BNP leaders met with members of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s family and spoke with his attending physicians. They inquired about his current health status and the ongoing course of treatment.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has been suffering from multiple health complications for the past several months.
His condition reportedly deteriorated while he was in custody, following his arrest in December 2022 on charges related to alleged anti-state activities. Rights groups and his family have long been raising concerns over his health, citing inadequate medical facilities in prison.
After repeated appeals, he was eventually shifted to United Hospital in Dhaka for advanced medical care.
There, he is currently being treated for cardiac issues, diabetes, and age-related complications, according to party sources.
His condition remains serious but stable, and he is under close observation by a team of specialists. The BNP delegation’s visit signals a gesture of solidarity from one opposition political camp to another in Bangladesh.
