Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Popular theatre troupe Prangane Mor will stage its
latest production — an
adaptation of the classic Tagore novel Shesher Kobita — today at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha area
in the evening.
The play has been dramatised by Ananta Heera and directed by Nuna Afroz. This is the fourth production based on Tagore’s literary works in eight years by the troupe.
The oft-read tragic-romantic story Shesher Kobita zooms in on Amit Roy and Labonya Debi, who meet each other after a minor collision of their respective vehicles on a hilly road in Shillong. Amit and Labonya gradually fall for each other. There are other important characters in the story, such as Shobhonlal
and Ketoki.
Ananta Hera and Ramij Raju alternatively will act as Amit, while Nuna Afroz, Shubhechchha and Shumi will playLabonya in different scenes. Ramij Raju and Nuna Afroz will also don the roles
of Shobhonlal and Ketoki respectively. Faiz Zahir will design the set, which will
feature a couple of windows located at two
corners of the stage. The
windows will be used to depict Amit and Labonya’s loneliness. Whenever there will be a gloomy moment, the audience will find either Amit or Labonya by one of the
windows. Taufique Azim
will design the lights.
Apart from acting, Ramij Raju will also give the music direction. The music will be featured a number of Tagore songs. A group of performers will perform dance to the songs throughout the play. n
