Noting that some advisers of the current interim government appear to be biased, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar said that as the national election draws closer, instability is increasing at various levels of the administration.
He alleged that a few advisers and some officials within the administration are conspiring to bring a particular party to power. “They seem to be under a certain pressure,” he said. However, he urged them to abandon the path of secret plots and conspiracies and instead focus on creating a level playing field to ensure a free and fair election.
Addressing the government, Golam Parwar said, “Include the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the July Charter and hold a referendum based on it before the national election. If the people accept the PR system, the election must also be held accordingly.” He added that the election scheduled for February must be held only after ensuring administrative neutrality, making visible the trial of the 14-party alliance that sustained fascism, and accepting Jamaat’s five-point demands.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at two student-youth rallies organized by local Jamaat units – one in the morning at Pikegacha Government College field and another in the afternoon at Koyra Kopotakkho College field in Khulna district.
Golam Parwar further said, “The mass movement of 2024 was a war of students and people against fascism. Our second war now is against corruption. In this war, students and the masses must send forces that stand for Islam to the National Parliament through the upcoming election.”
He claimed that during Jamaat-e-Islami’s tenure in charge of three ministries, no agency could find evidence of corruption involving even a single taka. “The people of this country have seen every political party. This time, they will elect the Islam-oriented forces to protect the sovereignty of the country, Inshallah,” he added.
Speaking as a special guest, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Secretary General Nurul Islam Saddam said, “After the mass uprising, one political party thought they could regain power at any cost through an election similar to the previous sham polls.”
Another special guest, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Jamaat-nominated candidate for Khulna-6 constituency and assistant director of Jamaat’s Khulna region, announced a 20-point election manifesto including the formation of a Sundarbans district covering Koyra and Paikgacha upazilas.
He said, “If the Islamic alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami assumes responsibility for governing the state, the poor communication infrastructure of Koyra and Paikgacha will be improved.”
Abul Kalam Azad further said, “Before the 2018 election, I was arrested, and they thought 2024 would see another dummy election. But people are hopeful that the 2026 election will be a festival of democracy. Yet a particular party is now plotting to sabotage that election as well.”
The Paikgacha rally was chaired by Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Saidur Rahman, while the Koyra rally was chaired by Upazila Ameer Maulana Mizanur Rahman.
Other speakers included Khulna district Jamaat Naeb-e-Ameer Maulana Golam Sarwar, Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, Khulna Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir President Arafat Hossain Milon, South District President Abu Zar al-Ghifari, Khulna Metropolitan Jamaat Assistant Secretary Advocate Shah Alam, District Assistant Secretary Munshi Moinul Islam, Advocate Mostafizur Rahman, Professor Mia Golam Kuddus, Gausul Azam Hadi, Metropolitan Working Committee Member Advocate Shafiqul Islam Lito and, District Working Committee Member Advocate Liaqat Ali, among others.
