Potato Festival 2025′ kicked off in city

The inaugural ceremony of the two-day international exhibition titled ‘Potato Festival 2025’, organised by the Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA), was held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the city on Friday.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.), Adviser, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Special Guests present at the ceremony included Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Honourable Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture; Professor Dr. A. K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiya, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh; and Joris Van Bommel, Honourable Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh.

The ceremony was presided over by Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, President of BCSA. Also present were Senior Vice-President Ishtiak Ahmed, Vice-President Mohammad Yunus, members of the Board of Directors, Tony Lv, General Manager, NürnbergMesse Fima Exhibition (Hangzhou) Co. Ltd., China; Faizul Alam, Managing Director, Postmaster Communication; the CEO of BCSA, and other distinguished officials.

The Potato Festival 2025 is designed to promote the multifaceted use of potatoes as food in Bangladesh, formulate strategies to increase exports, enhance modern storage technologies, and expand potato processing industries.

The exhibition was attended by prominent business leaders from the agriculture, potato production, cold chain, and food processing sectors, along with potato farmers and the general public, said a press release.

Nearly 500 farmers from across the country are participating in this international fair. In his speech, the President announced that 10 exemplary farmers, selected from various districts, will be honored on the closing day of the event.

A total of 66 local and international organizations are participating in this international exhibition, showcasing equipment for modern potato cultivation, advanced cold storage technologies, processing solutions, value addition, export opportunities, cold-chain systems, agricultural machinery, and various potato-based food products.

During the exhibition, international B2B meetings and two expert-led panel sessions were held focusing on increasing domestic consumption of potatoes, enhancing exports, and strengthening value addition.

The recommendations from these panel sessions will be submitted to the relevant government ministries for necessary action. Postmaster Communication is serving as the Event Partner of the fair.
