There is a possibility of bumper yields in seed potato production in the current season at the Domar seed potato production (BADC) farm in Nilphamari. It can be learned from the ground that the farm has a program to produce different varieties of seed potatoes on 405.66 acres of land in the current season, and its production target is 2500 million tons.
And currently its inter-service is ongoing. It is worth noting that 16 new varieties of seed potatoes have been registered by BADC so far, which are BADC Potato 1 (Sunshine), BADC Potato 2 (Prada), BADC Potato 3 (Santbana), BADC Potato 4 (Innovator), BADC Potato 5 (Edison), BADC Potato 6 (Kumbika), BADC Potato 7 (QueenAnnie), BADC Potato 8 (Labella), BADC Potato 9 (KAC81), BADC Potato 10 (Alcander), BADC Potato 11 (Delieret).
BADC Potato 12 (Rashida), BADC Potato 13 (Ginarod), BADC Potato 14 (SHC1010), BADC Potato 15 (Brianna), BADC Potato 16 (Lugano).
In addition, 2 more varieties are proposed for registration. Which are: BADC Potato 17 (7 Kishoreganj) and BADC Potato 18 (Reza) In addition, currently, 8 high-yielding varieties are being tested on the farm. The varieties are (1) Montana (2) Captiva (3) Jelly (4) Vindica (5) Laura (6) Unica (7) Early Valley (8) Rosalin, and a living museum of 90 varieties is established every year on about 1 acre of land to expand the adaptability and research capacity of new varieties of seed potatoes and to preserve germplasm.
The Domar Basic Seed Potato Production Farm is a farm of national importance. In addition to the 600.74 acres of seed production land of this farm, a total of 7 tissue culture laboratories, including 2 tissue culture labs in this farm and 5 elsewhere, have produced about 20 lakh virus-free plantlets of 32 varieties this year.
It has produced breeder seeds of 24 varieties of mini tubers and 10 varieties of basic quality seeds in a continuous process. After storing them in two cold stores of this department and other cold stores, the contracted farmers of the zone produce basic and certified seeds in 32 cold stores of BADC located in different districts of the country.
About 50,000 MT of seed potatoes are marketed at the farmer level every year. In this regard, Abu Taleb Miah, Deputy Director of the said, every inch of land of this farm is being brought under cultivation and the crop is being cultivated. In this, the farm is playing an important role in the country, in this area of globalization, agriculture is the main driving force of the country’s economy. In line with this, the seed potato production farm, one of the bases of BADC, is working.
