Students from polytechnic institutes across Bangladesh, under the banner of Karigari Chhatra Andolan (Technical Students’ Movement, Bangladesh), staged simultaneous rallies on Sunday to press a six-point list of demands.
In Dhaka, the demonstration began around noon near Agargaon, drawing students from various institutions.
Among their key demands is the withdrawal of a High Court verdict that promotes junior instructors to the position of craft instructors—an order the protesters have strongly opposed.
Md Mashfiq Islam Dewan, a Dhaka Polytechnic Institute student and representative of the movement, addressed the crowd passionately. “To every diploma engineer and technical student—remember the movement of ’87, the movement of ’13, and the bloodshed of our brothers. We have not forgotten,” he said.
He called on fellow students and professionals to join the cause. “This movement is not just for students. It’s for teachers, students, and every engineering professional. Everyone should stand in solidarity.”
Protesters have labeled the court order promoting junior instructors as a “black writ,” emphasizing their firm opposition.
