Md. Shahanur Alam, Jhenaidah :

The teachers of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Degree College in Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah have been deprived of MPO for 18 years just because of the college name taken after late President Ziaur Rahman.
Despite fulfilling all the eligibility conditions, the previous Awami government kept the degree section of the college out of MPO because of Shahid Zia’s name.
The teachers and staff who were appointed in the degree section of the college 18 years ago are living an inhumane life without salary. The aggrieved teachers demanded payment of all arrears from the date of appointment by the degree section MPO of the college as soon as possible.
At the same time, they also said that there is no alternative to nationalization to regain the lost glory of the college.
Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Degree College was established in Fatepur of Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah in 2000 during the BNP government period.
Shahidul Islam, Member of Parliament of Jhenaidah-3 Constituency of the then BNP Government established the college to spread the light of education in the minds of the people of this area who are backward in education.
After two years of establishment, MPO up to Intermediate was included.
Subsequently, the teaching of the degree section was incorporated on 13 July 2005. The following year there was a change of power. After that, the local Awami League leaders started exerting great pressure to change the name of the college.
But due to the stubborn stand of the teachers, they could not change the name of the college and they started the plan to make the college ineffective.
