Police have clashed with teachers of independent ebtedayee madrasas protesting for nationalisation, using batons and water cannons as the educators attempted to break through makeshift barricades during their march toward the Chief Adviser’s Office.
This incident happened around 1pm on Sunday in front of Shahbagh Police Station, leaving several madrasa teachers injured.
Earlier on Sunday morning, the Independent Ebtedayee Madrasah Teachers Union took position at Jatiya Press Club demanding to press home their six-point demands, including nationalisation of jobs.
Later, they proceeded towards the Chief Adviser’s Office from the Press Club for submitting a memorandum.
When the procession reached Shahbagh Police Station through Dhaka University, the police used water cannons and hurled sound grenades.
Law enforcers and the protesting teachers are still engaged in a face-to-face standoff at the scene.
