A female drug dealer was arrested with Yaba tablets worth Tk 344,000 in a joint operation by the Coast Guard and police in Mongla, according to an official report.
The arrested woman was sent to jail through the Bagerhat court on Thursday morning. Lieutenant Commander Muntasir Ibne Mohsin, Media Officer of the Coast Guard’s Western Zone deployed in Mongla under Bagerhat district, confirmed the information.
He said that acting on a secret tip-off, joint forces of the Coast Guard and police conducted a raid on Wednesday night in the area adjacent to Cemetery Road in Mongla municipal town.
During the raid, 688 Yaba tablets worth approximately Tk 344,000 were seized, and the female drug dealer was arrested on the spot.
He added that a case was filed the same night with Mongla Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act in connection with the seized Yaba and the arrest. The following morning, the accused was sent to jail through the Bagerhat court.
In another incident, a police team from Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station arrested a female drug trader named Farida Begum, 55, with 1,000 Yaba tablets worth Tk 500,000 from a hotel in the Nagerbazar area of Bagerhat town on Friday morning.
The information was confirmed by Md Shamim Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bagerhat.
Acting on secret information, the police raided a local eatery named “Bhater Hotel” and arrested Farida Begum. Based on her confession, police recovered the Yaba tablets from inside the hotel premises.
Farida Begum, the wife of the late Matiar Rahman of the same area, had been running the hotel for a long time.
