Bangladesh Police have started distributing their newly designed iron-grey uniforms, beginning with a limited group of personnel.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman said the distribution process commenced on Saturday and will continue in several stages.

Members of metropolitan police units are receiving the first consignments, though in restricted quantities.

The updated iron-grey attire will gradually replace the existing blue and green uniforms across both range and metropolitan forces.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Rafique Ahmed said they had yet to receive the new outfits but expect to do so shortly.

The interim government approved the revised uniform design following widespread demands for police reform after last year’s political transition triggered by the July Uprising.

Authorities had earlier announced that the long-awaited uniforms would be distributed this month among personnel of metropolitan and specialised units.

Forces such as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), and specialised units including the Highway Police, River Police, and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) will be the first to adopt the redesigned attire.

Initially, all metropolitan and specialised units will switch to the new uniform, with range and district police adopting it in subsequent phases.

The decision to revise the uniform colours for Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was approved on January 20 as part of broader reforms following the uprising.

The updated attire is intended to give the force a renewed identity, reflecting modernisation and enhanced accountability.
