Police file charge sheet against Hasina, 114 others for Savar killings
Staff Reporter :
Police have submitted the first charge sheet in the murder case filed over the killing of fish trader Nabi Nur Morol during the July–August 2024 mass uprising, naming ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 114 others as accused.
The Savar Model Police Station filed the charge sheet with the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, listing prominent political figures including Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Dr Enamur Rahman, and Advocate Qamrul Islam among the accused.
According to the investigation led by Sub-Inspector Foysal Alam, Nabi Nur Morol had joined a rally of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 20 July 2024 at Wapda Road in Savar.
The charge sheet claims that the protest turned violent after alleged incitement by Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Obaidul Quader.
It further states that a group led by Dr Enamur Rahman, Manjurul Alam Razib, and Haji Abdul Goni opened fire on protesters using pistols, shotguns, and other weapons.
“One bullet fired from the pistol of Manjurul Alam Razib struck Morol in the abdomen and exited through the other side. He was taken to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital, where he died from his injuries the following day,” the report reads.
Morol’s widow, Aklima Begum, lodged the case on 4 September 2024. After more than a year of investigation, police concluded that the allegations were substantiated and formally filed the charge sheet.
“I have filed the charge sheet against 114 accused, and the evidence supports the charges against them,” said the investigating officer.
Expressing relief after the long wait, Aklima Begum welcomed the development and reiterated her call for justice for her late husband.
