Police have debunked the mystery of the murder of schoolgirl Nafia Jannat Anjum (15) in Kulaura, Moulvibazar within 18 hours. Neighbor Md. Junel Mia (39) has been arrested in this incident. The victim’s confession was recovered Burqa, school bag, books and a shoe. Police Superintendent MKH Jahangir Hossain gave this information at a press conference held at the office of the Moulvibazar Police Superintendent on Monday afternoon, June 16. He said that on June 12, around 7 am, Daudpur Anjum, a resident of the village, went missing while studying privately in the nearby village of Singur. The family filed a general diary (GD) with the Kulaura police station regarding the matter. Two days after the disappearance, on June 14, at around 5:30 pm, she was found near a stream near her house.
The victim’s brother and uncle found her half-decomposed body after noticing a foul smell. Police recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, and a murder case was filed at Kulaura Police Station.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, the police formed multiple investigation teams led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Nubel Chakma and Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Ajmal Hossain, who is also in charge of Kulaura Circle. Kulaura Police Station A team including OC Md. Golam Apsar and Police Inspector (Investigation) Sudipto Shekhar Bhattacharya visited the scene.
As part of the investigation, the police searched the bushes next to the chhara and recovered Anjum’s school bag, books and a shoe.
In addition, 6 special teams were formed to interrogate locals. During the investigation, the police found out that neighbor Junel Mia had a record of watching pornography on her mobile phone. When she was detained as a suspect, at one stage of the interrogation, at 12 am,
Junel confessed to the murder in front of the police.
In her statement, Junel said that she had been eyeing Anjum for a long time and wanted to befriend her. On the morning of June 12, while she was returning home after a private lesson, Junel blocked her path.
When Anjum tried to escape, Junel hugged her from behind and when she screamed, she choked her. When Anjum became unconscious, she left her in a nearby bush and fled.
Later, Anjum’s burqa, shoes and school bag were found around the scene.
According to his testimony, the police also recovered the victim’s burqa from the family graveyard adjacent to the Kirim Shah shrine.
