Staff Reporter :

Police used batons to disperse a group of dismissed police officers who had lost their jobs over various complaints during the 15 years of the Awami League government.

The incident took place around 12:30pm on Thursday near the Secretariat in Dhaka when the protestors, including former constables, attempted to meet with the chief advisor to demand the restoration of their jobs.

The dismissed personnel had gathered earlier at the Jatiya Press Club, from where they launched a procession toward the Secretariat, expressing frustration over their dismissal.

As they tried to march closer to the building, police forces intervened and used batons to push them back, returning the protestors to the Press Club area.

Additional security measures were deployed near the south gate of the Secretariat in response to the incident.

Inspector Kaisar, who was present at the scene, confirmed the events and stated, “Some police constables who lost their jobs during the rule of the last government came to the Secretariat demanding the restoration of their jobs.

They were driven away.” No casualties were reported, but tensions remained high as the dismissed officers expressed their dissatisfaction with the ongoing situation.

Authorities have not yet responded to any potential actions that may be taken to address the demands of the protestors.

This incident highlights the ongoing grievances among former police personnel who have been dismissed under various allegations over the years, seeking reinstatement and justice for their cases.
