Police have registered a case against patients and their
relatives protesting against the increase in kidney dialysis fees at CMC Hospital. Sub-Inspector Mostafizur Rahman filed the case at Panchlaish Police Station on Tuesday (January 10) around 11:30pm. The case has been filed naming one patient named Mostakim and accusing 50 to 60 unidentified others. Mostakim was arrested while protesting by blocking the road on Tuesday afternoon. Inspector Sadekur Rahman of Panchlaish police station said that a case has been filed against the police on charges of assault and obstructing their work. Five policemen who were injured while trying to remove the road blockers received treatment. OC of Panchlaish Police Station, Nazim Uddin Majumdar said that a patient’s relative was arrested when he obstructed the police work. Patients were not beaten.
Patients and their relatives have been protesting at Chittagong Medical College Hospital for the last four days demanding a reduction in dialysis fees. They complained that the service that Sandor used to provide at Tk510 in subsidy has now increased to Tk535.
The dialysis session which used to cost 2 thousand 785 rupees without subsidy has been made at 2 thousand 935 rupees. Those who earlier could get 8 sessions of dialysis per month at subsidized cost, will now have to do 4 sessions at full fee. Kidney Dialysis Center was started in CMCH Hospital with 31 machines on March 5, 2017.
