Ishwardi Thana police have arrested three members of a cheating gang, including wife of a Sechhwashebak League leader, on charge of embezzling money by blackmailing after recording offensive videos on mobile phones. On Wednesday (May 22) afternoon, the arrested were sent to Pabna Jail.
The arrested are Parveen Akhtar Shahnaz alias Rupsi (26), wife of Sakawat Hossain Sajib Malitha, joint convener of Ishwardi Upazila Sechhwashebak League, Jalal Hossain (22), son of deceased Golam Hossain of Mashuriapara area, and Ajmal Haque (27), son of Badsha Mandal of Dashuria Baliadanga (Bagh Hasla) village. The officer in charge of the police station, Rafiqul Islam, confirmed the arrest.
According to police sources, Sakawat Hossain Sajib Malitha, joint convener of Ishwardi Upazila Volunteer League, and his wife were staying in the house of Abdul Latif, son of deceased officer Ali Prang of Tebunia Bajendrapur village of Pabna Sadar police station. Parveen Akhtar Shahnaz alias Rupsi developed friendship with Ah Latif. They were in regular contact on cell phones. Last Monday (May 20th) afternoon, when Abdul Latif came to Ishwardi on business, he contacted Parveen Akhtar on the phone. Abdul Latif went there when Parveen Akhtar invited him for a tour of their new rented house at Bakul Junction in the city.
Parveen Akhtar, with the help of the arrested accused Jamal and Ajmal, locked Abdul Latif in a room with an unidentified woman in his house, beat him up, stripped Latif and took obscene pictures and videos with the woman. 70,000 taka was taken from Latif by Bkash by threatening to make videos and pictures viral. Later Abdul Latif was overshadowed with a signature on a white stamp.
The day after the incident, Abdul Latif filed a written complaint at Ishwardi police station. Based on the complaint and Bikash number, the police conducted raids at various places and arrested the three accused.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that the gang had been blackmailing people by recording obscene videos on mobile phones for a long time. During the arrest of the accused, the said stamps, cash and mobile phones containing videos were recovered.
