December 3 is the Pakistani Invader Liberation Day in Thakurgaon. On this day in 1971, in the face of a fierce attack by more than two hundred guerrillas under Captain Jahangir of the Liberation Army and allied forces, the invading army led by Captain Zahid of the Pakistani Invader Army and their allies were forced to leave Pirganj and fled towards Syedpur Cantonment via Birganj. On this day, more than two hundred guerrilla liberation forces led by the guerrilla leaders of the Liberation Army, Shahidullah Shahid of Munshipara, Makim Uddin Ahmed, Jagthar Abdul Aziz, Talebur Rahman of Birholi and Akhtaruzzaman of Kachon Dumuria, bravely entered Pirganj and declared Pirganj free from the Pakistani invaders. Then a unit of the Defence Liberation Army and the Allied Forces (Indian Border Guards) entered Pirganj. Since that day, December 3 has been celebrated as 'Pirganj Liberation Day from Pakistani Invaders;.On the occasion of Pirganj Liberation Day, the Pirganj Press Club, in collaboration with the Upazila Administration, has taken up a program to celebrate the day. The program includes a liberation procession, a pujajali at the Central Memorial Hall and a discussion meeting.
