The centenary old Kaliurghat bridge over river Karnaphuli was renovated in several times but the brides could not prirde desired services till date.
The residents of Patiya, Boalkhali as well as south Chattogram and Banderban , Coxsbazar district worstly suffering following the dilapidated conditions of kalurghat Railway bridge.
The residents of Patiya, Boalkhali regularly come down Chattogram city regularly as a part of these upazilas under cne constituency of Chattogram. In every national election, the leaders commit to peopleto build new Kalurghat bridge but yet to be fulfilled these promises.
After long wait, new Kalureghat bridge is going to be constructed and a loan deal with South Korea was signed in June last and the project Director will be appointed in December next, Railway East zone sousrces said.
After appointment of Project Director, project works will start in phases. Sources said Korean Project Director will be assigned in May next and after that land acquisitions will start fron June next.
Railway sources said out of total project’s estimated cost of 11,560.77 crores taka,South Korea will fund 7,125 crores taka and the remaining Tk.4,435.62 crores will borne by Bangladesh Govt. Roads Transport, Bridge & Railway Advisor Md. Fouzal Kabir khan disclosed it recently at views exchange meeting held at Chattogram Circuit house, sources added.
