NCP’s mass rally demands trial of AL: People want quick execution of Hasina’s verdict : Nahid

The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) on Saturday organised a mass rally in Dhaka demanding the immediate execution of the court verdict against those convicted for the July killings and calling for legal action against the Awami League and its former alliance partners as political entities.
Thousands of party activists joined the gathering, which added fresh momentum to ongoing calls for accountability following the political upheaval of recent months.
The rally began shortly after 4:00pm near the Eskaton Garden Road intersection, led by NCP convener Nahid Islam.
Carrying placards demanding justice for what the party describes as systemic political crimes, marchers moved through the capital’s busy thoroughfares with chants and slogans condemning the Awami League, which remains banned from political activity under the interim government.
Participants brandished placards reading, “Try the domesticated opposition,” “Put the Awami League on trial as a party,” “Justice for murdered workers,” and “Punish those who looted the banks.”
Others carried posters referencing the July killings, urging the authorities to execute the sentences without delay.
Throughout the procession, party activists chanted slogans such as “Delhi or Dhaka? Dhaka first,” “Mujibism, down with it,” “If there’s a rope, bring it — hang Hasina,” and “Catch the League, fill the jails,” reflecting the anger and political fervor among NCP’s grassroots.
Alongside NCP supporters, members of its affiliated organisations—including Jatiya Shramik Shakti and Jatiya Chhatra Shakti—also took part in the demonstration.
The march made its way through Shahbagh before heading toward the National Press Club, where party leaders were scheduled to address a brief rally at the end of the procession.
Speaking after the mass rally held by NCP in Dhaka, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said, the people of the country will not receive justice unless the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is executed quickly, “This is not political revenge, rather, it is justice for 16 years of human rights violations and repression,” he said.
Ariful Islam Adeeb, convener of NCP’s Dhaka North unit, said the march was aimed at pressing the government to move swiftly on the trials of the Awami League and its former alliance partners.
“We want the government to expedite these trials. Our demand is simple: justice must not be delayed,” he said.
The rally had a visible impact on traffic flow.
As the procession advanced from Banglamotor toward Kawran Bazar, heavy congestion formed along Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, causing significant delays for commuters and creating hardships for those travelling through one of the city’s busiest routes.
The NCP, which has increased its street presence since the political reshuffle earlier this year, signalled that Saturday’s demonstration was part of a broader campaign to maintain pressure on the interim administration over issues of justice, political reform, and state accountability.
The party plans further programmes in the coming weeks as the country moves toward the next general election.
