Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sabbir Faiz has remarked that the public wants the police to carry out their duties responsibly rather than display their power.

Speaking to police officials on Saturday, he noted that citizens are willing to acknowledge good policing.

What the people expect, he said, is genuine courtesy, cooperation, and service delivered with a respectful attitude.

At a police-magistracy coordination meeting, he said that investigations into several major and high-profile cases were moving forward and many were being resolved quickly. However, he added, these positive developments often fail to reach the broader public.
He emphasised that justice must be ensured regardless of the identity of the offender and that citizens must be kept informed.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman noted that both police and magistrates faced significant challenges following the July Uprising, though the situation has since improved substantially.

He referred to recent concerns, including the fatal shooting of a man near the court shortly after he appeared before it.

Such incidents, he cautioned, erode the sense of safety for litigants, judges, and lawyers and threaten the proper functioning of the justice system.

He called for comprehensive investigations into the July shooting cases, pointing out that Section 173-A-recently incorporated into the Code of Criminal Procedure-was introduced with positive intent but is being misapplied in certain cases.

He urged the police to exercise greater caution and responsibility.
