Barrister Rumeen Farhana, BNP’s Assistant International Affairs Secretary and former MP from the reserved women’s seat, said that the fight for voting rights is not over yet, and warned that if anyone tries to cling to power without elections, the people will not accept it.
Speaking as the chief guest at a public rally on Friday afternoon at the Surya Kumar Das Chowdhury High School grounds in Lalpur, Ashuganj, she said, “We are still fighting to establish the people’s right to vote. Now some say BNP only talks about elections. Of course we do — BNP is a democratic party. Elections are the only way forward.”
She further added, “Those who became voters 15 years ago have still not been able to cast a vote. Now, they are eagerly waiting for that opportunity. A people’s government must be established through fair elections without delay.”
The public rally was organized by Lalpur Union BNP and its affiliated wings to promote BNP’s declared 31-point reform agenda.
The event was presided over by Lalpur Union BNP Senior Vice-President Haji Md Jamal Mia.
Among the special guests were former President of Brahmanbaria District BNP and former Municipal Mayor Hafizur Rahman Molla Kochi, former General Secretary Zahirul Islam Zahir, former Joint Secretary ABM Muminul Haque Mumin, BNP leader VP Zahirul Haque Liton, and local leaders from Sarail and Ashuganj Upazila BNP.
