The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy MP said here on Tuesday that the January-5 parliamentary polls has opened a new chapter in our history as the people cast their votes defying ceaseless hartal, blockade and subversive activities of the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir for upholding the Constitution and continuation of the democratic process.
“Braving many barriers and barricades on their ways, the people of the country have again proved that they like democracy, they want to ensure peace, stability, uphold the spirit of liberation war and steering the nation towards progress and prosperity under the dynamic leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Apart from this, the people also proved that they never want to see anarchy, terrorism, subversive acts or militancy including the incidents of burning people to death, removing railway fishplates, and bombings”, Joy said adding that the people like Awami League (AL), cast votes for AL as it renders service for only their welfare and bringing smile on their faces.
He was addressing as chief guest a reception accorded to him at the conference room of Netrakona Diabetes Hospital here yesterday by Netrakona District Diabetic Samity.
Chaired by President of the organisation and prominent social worker Dr. MA Hamid, the function was addressed, among others, by deputy commissioner Netrakona DR Abul Kalam Azad, civil surgeon Netrakona DR Shahiduddin Ahmed Sapan, chairman of Netrakona sader upazila parishad Tafsiruddin Khan, former chairman of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, war-wounded freedom fighter Osman Gani Talukder and freedom fighter Muzammel Haque Bachhu.
Turning to various demands of local people, the deputy minister said that massive development programmes would be undertaken in the district to build up the district as modern one like other developed district of the country for fulfilling the long-cherished demands of local people.
