Jatiyo Party’s new faction Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud has voiced widespread skepticism about the likelihood of holding the national elections in February.
Addressing the central representative meeting of Jatiyo Jubo Sanghoti at Howlader Tower on Saturday, he criticised the government’s repeated claims that the upcoming polls would be the “best, most acceptable, impartial, free, and fair in history.”
He noted that the government’s information adviser recently alleged that all key administrative positions are controlled by BNP and Jamaat, which raises serious questions about the administration’s neutrality.

“Even a child wouldn’t believe elections could be free and fair under such a biased administration,” Anisul remarked.
He said that during his visits and meetings across the country, many prominent individuals, including politicians, often ask whether the elections will actually take place in February.
“The very question itself reflects the public’s growing doubt,” he added.
Ordinary citizens are also questioning the feasibility of the polls, indicating a deep sense of public mistrust, Anisul observed.

Pointing to the “deteriorating” law and order situation, he said, “Mob violence, killings, and shootings have become rampant, and police are regularly recovering unidentified bodies. Talking about free and fair elections in such an atmosphere is absurd.”
At the same event, Jatiyo Party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader echoed these concerns, accusing the chief adviser of “turning a blind eye to human rights abuses, extortion, rape, and illegal land grabs.” He urged the chief adviser to act responsibly, warning that failure to address these issues could seal his legacy as an unsuccessful ruler.
The meeting was presided over by Jatiyo Jubo Sanghoti Convener Fakhrul Ahsan Shahzada.
