The last BNP divisional mass rally wrapped up peacefully in Dhaka on December 10, despite the obstructions and provocations from the government. The government claims it is a constitutional government and showing patience in tolerating the opposition despite their obstructive activities harmful for the country. The government is oblivious of the fact that it is not elected. What surprised us is on one side the government in unpalatable language reviled the diplomats for expressing concerns for restricting the opposition through violence and police activities. The foreign embassies work here to collect information about what is going on their respective countries. It is possible that the foreign embassies in our country know more than the people know. What is amusing that the contents of the foreign ministry’s letter itself appears to be a party leaflet.

The government had stationed more than 32 thousand police apart from the party workers at different vintage points in Dhaka as visible intimidation so that the people do not dare to go to the protest meeting. Even then one of the largest meeting was held on 10 December. They came to tell the government that they have no jobs or money to survive, hence they want resignation of the unelected government.

Even then the BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, senior party leader Mirza Abbas and many other workers were sent to jail showing police power behind the government.

In the process police are losing their integrity and their image as law enforcers.

The Japanese ambassador felt a compulsion to say that the last election was decided night before the election day.

The fatal weakness of the government is this unelected government deadly fearful of public gathering. It is for the pressures of foreign powers the meeting of 10 December could take place without confrontation.
