Thousands of holidaymakers have begun returning to the capital peacefully after celebrating Eid-ul-Azha with their families across the country. The post-Eid return journey has remained largely smooth, with transport services operating without major disruptions.
According to transport authorities, bus, train, and launch terminals saw a steady but manageable flow of passengers throughout Wednesday and Thursday morning. Officials attributed the smooth return to staggered travel plans, increased transport capacity, and better coordination by law enforcement and traffic management teams.
“We’ve noticed that many people are spreading out their return journeys over several days, which is helping reduce pressure on terminals and highways,” said a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
At Gabtoli, Sayedabad, and Mohakhali bus terminals, long-distance buses were arriving on time, and commuters expressed satisfaction with the travel conditions.
Kamalapur Railway Station also reported timely train services with additional coaches added to accommodate the Eid rush.
Launch terminals, especially Sadarghat, witnessed a consistent flow of passengers returning from southern districts. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) reported no major delays or safety concerns.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deployed additional forces at major entry points to ensure safety and smooth traffic movement.
No significant reports of traffic jams or accidents were recorded, thanks to continued monitoring and prompt response from highway police and volunteers.
Many returnees appreciated the improved travel experience.
“This year’s return journey was much more comfortable than previous years. The traffic was well-managed, and our bus was on schedule,” said Arif Hossain, a private sector employee returning from Rajshahi.
Authorities expect the inflow to continue steadily over the next two days as offices and businesses gradually resume regular operations.
Overall, the peaceful and organized return of Eid holidaymakers reflects improved travel management and public cooperation during one of the busiest times of the year.
