Sylhet Bureau :
The parents of a mentally ill youth who returned to the UK are passing through a worrying time. At a press conference organized at the Sylhet Press Club on Sunday, Md. Ablus Mia (Tita Shah), a resident of Moyarchar under Jalalabad police station, said that although her son Ain Uddin is a UK citizen, he has not yet received a British passport. However, his wife and children living in the UK have British passports.

At present, it has become urgent to send him to the UK for his proper treatment and mental peace. In this regard, he has sought the cooperation of the British government, the UK Embassy in Dhaka and the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry.

In a written statement, he said that his three sons and three daughters are UK citizens. His parents were also citizens of that country.

However, he and his wife are not citizens of the UK, but they were there to visit their children.

His third son, Ain Uddin, suffers from mental illness. For this reason, he returned to the country from the UK on July 3, 2023. Although he was relatively normal for a few days after returning to the country, he has now become mentally ill again due to the worries of his wife and children.

He has previously been admitted to various hospitals, including the Shah Jalal Mental Rehabilitation Center in Akhalia in the city and the Promise Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Center in the suburbs, for treatment.

Currently, his wife has stopped eating and drinking due to the worries of her children. She is not even taking medication. She is behaving abnormally and often attacks people. She is behaving crazy, including vandalizing furniture and the gas stove in the kitchen.

At the press conference, Tita Shah said that she and her wife are extremely worried and insecure about this mentally ill child.

Considering her son’s condition, she appealed to the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to allow him to return to the UK as soon as possible.
