December 3 is the Pakistani Invader Liberation Day in Thakurgaon. On this day in1971, in the face of a fierce attack by more than two hundred guerrillas unde rCaptain Jahangir of the Liberation Army and allied forces, the invading army led by Captain Zahid of the Pakistani Invader Army and their allies were forced toleave Pirganj and fled towards Syedpur Cantonment via Birganj.
On this day, morethan two hundred guerrilla liberation forces led by the guerrilla leaders of theLiberation Army, Shahidullah Shahid of Munshipara, Makim Uddin Ahmed,Jagthar Abdul Aziz, Talebur Rahman of Birholi and Akhtaruzzaman of KachonDumuria, bravely entered Pirganj and declared Pirganj free from the Pakistaniinvaders.
Then a unit of the Defence Liberation Army and the Allied Forces(Indian Border Guards) entered Pirganj. Since that day, December 3 has beencelebrated as Pirganj Liberation Day from Pakistani Invaders.
On the occasion of Pirganj Liberation Day, the Pirganj Press Club, in collaborationwith the Upazila Administration, has taken up a program to celebrate the day.
Theprogramme includes a liberation procession, a pujajali at the Central Memorial Halland a discussion meeting.
