Low-lying areas in Khulna’s coastal upazila Paikgachha have been flooded due to continuous heavy rains for several days. There is a threat of loss of crores of taka to the agriculture, fisheries and nursery sectors.
Although the upazila’s Gadaipur, Haridhali, Kapilmuni and Raruli unions are somewhat high-altitude areas, this time the agricultural lands and nurseries there have also gone under water.
On the other hand, the remaining six unions are always low-lying, as a result of which even a little rain causes waterlogging there. But this time the rainfall was excessive.
As a result, the main roads and alleys, including the gold market, fish market and all the places in the municipal area, are submerged.
Kamal Hossain, general secretary of the Paikgachha nursery traders’ association, said, “Lakhs of seedlings have died. The beds are under water.
