Assistant Director of Pabna Water Development Board, Mosharof Hossain said that the water has not increased in the last 24 hours at Hardinge Bridge Point in Pakshi area of Padma River. The water at this point was 11.94 meters on Sunday (August 25). Monday (August 26) increased by 4 cm 11. 98 meters. On Tuesday (August 27) the flow of water remained the same at 11.98 m.
He said 27 gates of Farakka were open till Sunday (August 25). I learned that a total of 109 gates were opened on Monday. Even if the gates are opened suddenly, there is no danger of flooding in this area. Because when the water of Yamuna decreases, the water of Padma increases. If the water of Yamuna decreases, if the water of Padma increases, there will be no flood. Now the water of Yamuna is decreasing rapidly. So we believe that there is no possibility of flood. Still if anything happens it is a matter of nature and who knows what the Creator above will do. But our idea is not to be confused.
Mosharraf Hossain also said that the danger level at Hardinge Bridge point of Padma River is 13.80 meters.
And on Monday, the water level was 11.98 meters. Stating that the water did not rise on Tuesday and there was no reason to worry, he said that the water was flowing much below the danger level.
The water is still 2 meters or 6 feet below. So there is no reason to worry. If the water exceeds the danger level of 13.80 and the water rises up to 15 or 16 meters then there may be a risk to the dam. However, there is no possibility of breaking the dam in Pabna district.
He also said that low-lying areas are flooded every year. Farakka’s gate was already open. Now all the gates are open. Earlier on August 19, the water level at this point rose to 12.18 meters. After that, although it decreased, the water increased slightly two days ago. Our board head office said there is no reason to worry. We are monitoring the entire situation.
