From March 2026, a direct train service from Pabna to Dhaka will start, according to Sheikh Moinuddin, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Roads, Bridges and Rail Communications.
He shared this information while speaking with journalists on Tuesday at the Pakshi Divisional Railway Office in Ishwardi.
He said, “Currently there is a shortage of railway coaches, but this problem will be resolved soon.
With that goal, the railway department is preparing to launch a direct Pabna-Dhaka train service from March.”
Sheikh Moinuddin also said that the unused railway station built for transporting equipment for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has been inspected, and necessary decisions will be taken regarding it.
Referring to plans to build an integrated modern transport system across the country by water, rail and road, he said work has already begun to upgrade district-level connecting highways to four lanes and to widen major roads.
As an old district, Pabna’s main Abdul Hamid Road widening project is being considered on a priority basis by the government.
He further noted that the Aricha-Khaschar ferry connection project, the Pakshi-Badherhat road widening project, and the Kashinathpur-Ullapara road development project are under active consideration by the government.
He also assured that an overpass will be built at the Ishwardi rail gate area to ease traffic congestion.
Earlier, BNP Chairperson’s Special Assistant and BNP-nominated candidate for Pabna Sadar constituency, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Bishwas, and BNP Chairperson’s Adviser and convenor of Pabna District BNP and BNP-nominated candidate for Pabna-4 constituency, Habibur Rahman Habib, placed the long-standing demands for improved communication systems of the people of Pabna before Sheikh Moinuddin.
It is worth mentioning that Sheikh Moinuddin arrived in Ishwardi on Monday. On Tuesday, he visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project and the North Bengal Paper Mills School, which is associated with his student-life memories.
Among those present were Pabna Press Club General Secretary Zahurul Islam, District BNP Senior Joint Convener Alhaj Abdus Samad Khan Montu, Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association Secretary General Abu Ahsan Khan Reyan, and senior officials of the Western Railway.
