Oxygen shortage makes 35 workers sick

Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

Thirty-five female workers at the Haizington China Hair Company in Ishwardi EPZ have fallen ill due to an oxygen shortage.

On Saturday, the air conditioning (AC) in the factory’s fourth-floor section was turned off for an extended period, causing the oxygen levels in the room to drop.

As a result, the workers began experiencing dizziness, shortness of breath, and other symptoms.

It was reported that among the affected workers, 34 were in critical condition. Initially, 15 of them were taken to the BEPZA Hospital, while the others were admitted to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.

Later, the 15 workers from BEPZA Hospital were also transferred to the Upazila Health Complex.

Haizington China Hair Company’s admin officer, Rashiduzzaman, explained, “The AC was turned off, which led to a drop in the oxygen level. As a result, several workers fell ill.

Upon seeing their condition, others became anxious and also started showing symptoms of illness.”

Dr. Ali Ehsan, Health and Family Planning Officer at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, stated, “A total of 34 patients from the EPZ are currently admitted.

They are receiving treatment, and we hope there will be no major complications.”
