Overall Aman paddy yields are good across the country this year. The prices of paddy also make farmers happy. Nabanna utsob (Harvest festival) is prevailing in villages, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and other sources said.

In this harvesting season, the courtyards of farmers, across the country are now filled with the aroma of newly harvested Aman paddy.

Amid the harvesting rush, the festive spirit of Nabanna (harvest festival) has returned to villages. With new rice entering homes, preparations for celebrations have begun.

Rural areas are once again buzzing with activity and life. Farmers are passing very busy days harvesting and threshing paddy. Local haat and markets are now overflowing with new rice.

According to DAE sources, harvesting has already been completed over 50 percent of Aman fields across the country.

Farmers shared that they are satisfied with the prices they are currently receiving in local markets.

The late varieties of Aman paddy harvesting are still ongoing in different districts.
Farmers say that due to excessive rainfall and flooding, waterlogging has caused damage to paddy in some areas of the country.

However, overall yields are good. Still, accurate production data can only be confirmed after harvesting is fully completed.

In Faridpur, farmers nearly completed Aman harvesting. Farmer Miraz Hossain, of Dadpur village in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur district told The New Nation on Thursday that Aman paddy yielding are fine in the area.

The New Nation’s Moulavibazar correspondent Nazrul Islam Muhib on Thursday said, fields of the district are now covered with harvested Aman paddy, piles of grain, and straw.

Under the glittering sunshine, the fields display a timeless rural beauty and familiar charm.

Everything else seems to fade into the background as farmers’ love and labor blend into the festive colors of the paddy harvest. Mynah birds and doves keep these fields alive from morning till evening.

In Barishal division, most of the lands are used to cultivate the late variety of Aman paddy.

The New Nation’s Patuakhali correspondent Abdus Salam Arif said on Thursday harvesting of Aman paddy has only just begun.

Yields have been good. In Dumki upazila of Patuakhali, the Aman harvesting season is now underway, with golden paddy fields stretching far and wide. From dawn to dusk, farmers remain busy harvesting rice.

Favorable weather, government incentives, distribution of high-yielding seed varieties, and overall supervision by the agriculture department have turned harvesting into a grand festival across the district.

Fields that once lay fallow during this season are now swaying with golden paddy, bringing satisfaction and smiles to farmers.

In Rajshahi, The New Nation Bureau Chief Mohibbullah Arefin on Thursday said, Tanor and Paba upazila have cultivated most Aman paddy in the district.
He said, the paddy has been sold at Tk 1210 to Tk 1220 per 40 kgs.

He said, excessive rain in the beginning of the season hampered the Aman cultivating slightly. He, however, said, the overall Aman yielding are satisfactory.
Sources said, Aman paddy production in Madaripur, Narsingdi, Sirajgonj and other districts also are good.

According to the DAE, in the 2025-2026 season the target was to cultivate Aman rice on 5.7 million hectares nationwide, with a production target of around 17.8 million metric tons.

In several districts-including Faridpur, Dinajpur, Sunamganj, Chattogram, and Netrokona-Aman was cultivated on more land than the target.

The data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and the Department of Agriculture show that average Aman yield per hectare has been increasing steadily over the past few years.

In the 2024-25 season, the average yield reached 2.95 tons per hectare, up from 2.81 tons in 2023-24. Earlier figures show 2.69 tons per hectare in 2022-23, 2.61 tons in 2021-22, and 2.55 tons in 2020-21.
