The Supreme Court’s full court meeting has decided to promote more than 300 judges from subordinate courts across the country to the position of District Judge.
The decision was made during a full court meeting held on Tuesday afternoon, attended by all justices of the Supreme Court.
In addition, more than 200 judges are set to be promoted to the post of Additional District Judge, according to multiple sources present at the meeting.
Sources further revealed that the full court also discussed the issue of Judge Kamrunnahar, who had lost her judicial authority for granting bail to an accused in the Raintree case despite an order from the Appellate Division prohibiting it.
The Judicial Administration (JA) Committee has been tasked with deciding whether her judicial powers will be reinstated.
The meeting, presided over by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, was held from 3 pm to 5 pm and covered more than 20 agenda items.
However, due to time constraints, the approval of the Supreme Court’s annual calendar could not be completed.
Most justices from both the Appellate and High Court Divisions were present at the session.
