Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has imposed a temporary ban on the entry of outsiders to its campus from July 13 to July 16, ahead of the observance of the martyrdom anniversary of Abu Sayeed and ‘July Martyrs’ Day’.
The decision, aimed at tightening campus security for the upcoming program, was announced in a notification signed by the university’s Proctor, Dr. Md. Ferdous Rahman, late Saturday (July 12).
The notification stated that the restriction would be in place from 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 13 until 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 16. During this period, only university students, teachers, officials, and staff carrying valid ID cards will be permitted to enter the campus.
Dr. Ferdous Rahman explained that the move is intended to ensure the safety of distinguished guests and maintain discipline throughout the celebration. “We want to ensure the event proceeds smoothly without any disruption,” he said. He also assured that department heads would coordinate with the proctor’s office to ensure newly enrolled students receive their ID cards in time.
The university is preparing to commemorate the first martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the anti-discrimination movement, with a series of events on July 16. One of the highlights of the day will be the presence of four advisors of the interim government, who will attend as special guests.
Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Advisor to the Ministry of Education, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, The father of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, Maqbul Hossain, will attend as the chief guest at the commemorative event.
Also scheduled to attend are Professor Dr. SMA Fayez, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Siddique Jobayer, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and Professor Dr. Tanzimuddin Khan, UGC Member.
