‘Our fight for independence, sovereignty of BD’
Sylhet Bureau :
Daily Amar Desh Editor Dr. Mahmudur Rahman said, our fight was for the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh against the fascism that was sitting on our cart and playing the role of India’s puppet government. At the same time, against Indian hegemony and their agents in this country. He said these things while exchanging greetings with journalists at Sylhet Press Club on Saturday.
Sylhet Press Club, a centenary journalism memorial organization, organized a congratulatory ceremony for being nominated for the Ekushey Padak.
At the ceremony, chaired by Press Club President Ikramul Kabir and moderated by General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam, he said, “Achieving the Ekushey Padak is not mine alone, but all the journalists of Daily Amar Desh and all those who fought against fascism.” He said, “I have a weakness for Sylhet.” Because, the people of Sylhet have always loved the Amar Desh newspaper. He expressed hope that this support of the people of Sylhet will continue.
He also said, we have no anger towards the people of India. But our position is against the hegemonic policy of the Indian government. In 1947, these people of Sylhet became part of Pakistan through a referendum. Therefore, the historical role of the people of Sylhet for independence must be preserved. Remembering the martyr journalist ATM Turab of the July Uprising, he said, his contribution to freeing the country from fascism will be remembered.
