A shocking incident occurred in Trishal, Mymensingh, where an only son allegedly killed his parents and buried them under the bed in the bedroom. Their bodies were recovered on Thursday afternoon, a day after the incident. The police have arrested the son.
According to family members, locals, and police sources, in the Banshkuri area of Boilor in the upazila, the son, who was addicted to online gambling, first killed his mother, Banoara Begum (60), by strangulation in his home around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and buried her in the room. Later at night, he killed his father, Mohammad Ali (70), and buried him in the same room.
On Thursday morning, the deceased’s daughter, Mosa: Zarina Begum, tried to contact her parents through her brother (the alleged killer) to check on them. Finding his responses incoherent, she went to her father’s house around noon.
Upon arriving, she noticed the furniture inside the room was scattered and became increasingly suspicious. When she asked why everything on the bed was wet, he claimed water had spilled on the bed. Later, seeing blood and sand-covered items under a trunk, her suspicion deepened. When the sand under the trunk was removed, the hands of her parents became visible. Zarina Begum screamed, and neighbors came and apprehended the accused, Riyad Hossain Raju (30), before informing the police.
Monsoor Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, said, “The accused son, Riyad Hossain Raju, has been arrested. Further investigation is ongoing regarding this incident.”
