Claiming their scheduled long march towards the Teesta Barrage in Nilphamari on April 22 a programme for saving the national interest, BNP on Sunday warned that those who will try to intercept it will be considered as the mass enemies of the nation.
“Our long march is a programme for protecting the national interests. Those who will block it will expose their true colour. They will be identified as the mass enemies and people will try them,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The BNP leader made the remarks while addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
He also said, the government will get isolated further if they try to resist the ‘national’ programme. “People will resist and give a befitting reply if any quarter tries to obstruct our peaceful programme. “
Rizvi said, India is jeopardising the environment of Bangladesh by building dams one after another over the common rivers. “India is putting the lives of 3-4 crore of Bangladeshi people by withdrawing the Teesta water, but the government is least bothered about it.”
He also alleged that the current ‘illegal regime” is sincerely trying to protect the interest of the neighbouring country putting the country’s water resources under threat.
The BNP leader said, they are all set to launch their march towards the Tessta, led by party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on Tuesday morning from in front of their Nayapaltan central office. The BNP-led 19-party alliance also has extended their support to it.
He said, they have given directions to the leaders of the districts by which the long march will caravan will cross on way to Nilphamari to make the programme a success by their sincere cooperation and participation in it.
Earlier in the morning, Rizvi along with some other central BNP leaders distributed leaflets in the city’s Elephant Road area to drum up public support in favour of their long-march programme.
On Wednesday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
announced that they will stage a long march towards the Teesta Barrage in Nilphamari on April 22-23 demanding due share of the river water.
Rizvi hoped that the government will extend its cooperation to their long-march programme instead of blocking it.
